Most Are Misinformed Regarding Chance of Serious Injury and Disease

Reuters news service reports that a survey designed at the Harvard School of Public Health
found that most of us are greatly misinformed about our chances of serious injury in an automobile accident or contracting serious, life-threatening disease.

Most people believe that they have about a 50% chance of being injured in a car accident. The actual chance over a lifetime is more like 5%.

The risk of developing breast or prostate cancer is actually around 10%. Most of us put the risk at around 40%, considerably higher than reality. We estimated that our chance for having a stroke was 45%, contracting lung cancer 35% and developing diabetes 37%. The chance of developing any of these conditions in our lifetime are actually less than 20%.

By way of commentary, our perceptions about health and disease are obviously unrealistic. We would all be much better off if we spent less time in fear of what could happen and more time focusing on the positives of those activities that produce health. Health is an active process that you must pursue. It is not a passive, hope-everything-stays-OK, wait-until-it-breaks-and-try-to-fix-it proposition. Regular Chiropractic Wellness Care is one of the most important steps you can take in your pursuit of Health for yourself and your family.
