Erb's Palsy

Description

Erb’s Palsy is a condition, mainly due to birth trauma, which can affect one or all of the five primary nerves that supply movement and feeling to an arm. Each baby's injury is unique. The paralysis can be partial or complete and the damage to each nerve can range from bruising to tearing. Some babies recover on their own however some may require specialist intervention.

The number of nerves damaged and how badly the nerve(s) has been damaged are key factors in diagnosing the severity of the injury.

How Chiropractic Care Relates to Erb’s Palsy

Early detection of these functional restrictions and the restoration of normal joint function, through active and passive mobilization during childhood, are important factors in limiting the extent of these disabilities. Studies have shown that specific chiropractic adjustments to the mid-cervical area of the spine can be very helpful for Erb's palsy sufferers.
